Justin Drew Bieber, born on March 1, 1994, is a Canadian singer known for his genre-blending musical style and significant influence on contemporary pop music. He was discovered in 2008 by American record executive Scooter Braun and signed with RBMG Records. Bieber rose to fame following the release of his debut seven-track EP, My World (2009), quickly becoming a teen idol.
His second studio album, Under the Mistletoe (2011), made history as the first Christmas album by a male artist to debut at number one in the U.S. With his third album, Believe (2012), Bieber experimented with dance-pop and became the youngest artist to earn five number-one albums in the U.S. by the age of 18.
Between 2013 and 2014, his public image took a hit due to several controversies and legal troubles. However, he made a strong comeback in 2015 with his venture into EDM, collaborating with Jack Ü on the Grammy-winning track “Where Are Ü Now.” The song marked a shift in Bieber’s musical direction and paved the way for his fourth album, Purpose, which produced three U.S. number-one hits: “What Do You Mean?”, “Sorry”, and “Love Yourself.”
Bieber became the first artist ever to occupy the top three spots on the UK Singles Chart simultaneously. From 2016 to 2017, he expanded his sound through high-profile collaborations, including “I’m the One” and a remix of “Despacito”—both of which reached number one on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 just one week apart, making him the first artist to debut different songs at number one in consecutive weeks.
“Despacito” was later named the greatest Latin song of all time by Billboard and earned Bieber his first Latin Grammy Award. In 2019, he explored the country genre with Dan + Shay on “10,000 Hours,” which won the Grammy for Best Country Duo/Group Performance.
