Justin Bieber: A Global Music Icon
Justin Drew Bieber (born March 1, 1994) is a Canadian singer known for his genre-blending musicianship and significant influence on modern popular music. Discovered by American record executive Scooter Braun, Bieber signed with RBMG Records in 2008. He quickly gained recognition with his debut seven-track EP, My World (2009), which established him as a teen idol.
Bieber’s success continued with Baby, one of the best-selling singles of all time in the U.S. His second studio album, Under the Mistletoe (2011), made history as the first Christmas album by a male artist to debut at number one in the U.S.
In 2012, Bieber explored dance-pop with his third studio album, Believe, becoming the first artist to achieve five U.S. number-one albums by the age of 18. However, between 2013 and 2014, his career was overshadowed by multiple controversies and legal issues, which significantly impacted his public image.
Bieber made a strong comeback in 2015, venturing into electronic dance music (EDM) as the lead vocalist on Jack Ü’s Where Are Ü Now, which won the Grammy Award for Best Dance/Electronic Recording. This shift in musical direction influenced his fourth studio album, Purpose, which produced three U.S. number-one singles: Love Yourself, Sorry, and What Do You Mean?
He became the first artist to simultaneously hold the top three spots on the UK Singles Chart. From 2016 to 2017, Bieber diversified his sound through several successful collaborations, including I’m the One and the remix of Despacito, both of which topped the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 in consecutive weeks—an unprecedented achievement.
Despacito was later named the greatest Latin song of all time by Billboard and earned Bieber his first Latin Grammy Award. In 2019, he further expanded his musical reach by collaborating with Dan + Shay on 10,000 Hours, a country hit that won the Grammy Award for Best Country Duo/Group Performance.
