Justin Drew Bieber (born March 1, 1994) is a Canadian singer known for his genre-blending musical style and his widespread influence on modern pop music. He was discovered by American music executive Scooter Braun and signed to RBMG Records in 2008. His debut EP, My World (2009), brought him early fame and quickly established him as a teen idol.
One of his early singles became one of the best-selling tracks of all time in the U.S. His second album, Under the Mistletoe (2011), made history as the first Christmas album by a male artist to debut at No. 1 on the U.S. charts.
Bieber explored dance-pop with his third album, Believe (2012), and became the first artist ever to earn five U.S. number-one albums by age 18. From 2013 to 2014, he faced several controversies and legal troubles, which significantly affected his public image.
In 2015, he ventured into EDM as the lead vocalist on Jack Ü’s Where Are Ü Now, which won a Grammy for Best Dance/Electronic Recording. This new sound shaped his fourth studio album, Purpose, which spawned three U.S. No. 1 hits: “Love Yourself,” “Sorry,” and “What Do You Mean?”
He also became the first artist to simultaneously hold the top three spots on the UK Singles Chart. Between 2016 and 2017, Bieber expanded his collaborations, topping the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 with hits like “I’m the One” and his remix of “Despacito” — both reaching No. 1 just one week apart. He made history again as the first artist to debut new No. 1 singles in back-to-back weeks.
“Despacito” was later named Billboard’s greatest Latin song of all time and earned him his first Latin Grammy Award. In 2019, Bieber released “10,000 Hours” with Dan + Shay, a country collaboration that won a Grammy for Best Country Duo/Group Performance.
